How Much Is GTA 6? $79.99 — and the Math Behind It

How Much Is GTA 6? $79.99 — and the Math Behind It

GTA 6 costs $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. Here's what each one gets you, and why the price is technically lower than GTA 5's was.

GTA 6 costs $79.99.

That's the Standard Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Both went live for pre-order on June 25, 2026. Both launch November 19, 2026.

That's the answer. Here's everything around it.

WHAT $79.99 GETS YOU (STANDARD EDITION)

The complete game. The full Jason and Lucia story across Leonida, start to finish. Nothing story-critical is locked behind a higher tier.

If you pre-order before November 20, 2026, you also get the Vintage Vice City Pack — regardless of which edition you buy. Standard buyers are not missing out on the pre-order bonus.

WHAT $99.99 GETS YOU (ULTIMATE EDITION)

Everything above, plus confirmed extras:

- 6 premium vehicles (including the '95 Grotti Cheetah and a '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy)

- Personalized weapon variants for Jason and Lucia

- Exclusive apparel and tattoos

- 2 Vehicle Mod Shops — Rideout Customs in Vice City, One-Eyed Willie's in Lake Leonida

- 1 month of GTA+ (digital pre-orders)

Rockstar's own language: these items are "threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter." You unlock them as you play. Not a day-one dump.

NOW THE PART EVERYONE ARGUES ABOUT

$79.99 feels like a lot. Let's actually check.

GTA 5 launched at $59.99 in September 2013. Adjusted for inflation to mid-2026, that's roughly $83.

GTA 6 Standard is $79.99.

In real purchasing power, you are paying slightly less for GTA 6 than your older brother paid for GTA 5. The number went up. The actual cost went down.

we are not saying this to defend rockstar. we're saying it because the math is the math and someone had to check.

[ANALYSIS] THE REAL DEBATE

The honest concern isn't whether $79.99 is fair for this specific game. It's whether $79.99 becomes the new floor for every AAA game, and whether $99.99 becomes the "real" price once every publisher copies the two-tier model.

That's a legitimate worry. It's also a different conversation from "is GTA 6 overpriced," which — on the numbers — it isn't.

IS THE ULTIMATE EDITION WORTH THE EXTRA $20?

GTA+ is roughly $8/month. Subtract that and you're paying about $12 for six vehicles, four weapons, exclusive apparel, and two mod shops.

If the GTA 6 economy works anything like GTA V's — where owned businesses generated passive income — two mod shops from day one is a real head start, not just a cosmetic flex.

If you're playing for the story and moving on, Standard is the whole game. You lose nothing narratively.

asked ourselves whether we'd pay $12 for two car shops in a game we haven't played yet.

we said yes. unanimously. we may need help.

ONE MORE THING ABOUT THE PHYSICAL VERSION

Physical copies ship November 12, 2026 — a week before launch, so you can pre-load. The box contains a download code. There is no disc at launch. Reportedly, an actual disc arrives around December 2026, though Rockstar hasn't officially confirmed that date.

You are paying $79.99 for cardboard and a code. we don't make the rules.
