How Many Times Has GTA 6 Been Delayed? Twice. Officially.

GTA 6 has been officially delayed twice — Fall 2025 to May 2026, then to November 19, 2026. Here's the complete timeline and why a third delay is unlikely.

GTA 6 has been officially delayed twice.

Here's the full timeline, and then we'll talk about whether a third one is coming.

THE COMPLETE DELAY TIMELINE

December 2023 — Trailer 1 drops. Rockstar announces a broad "2025" window. No specific date.

May 2, 2025 — DELAY 1. Rockstar pushes GTA 6 from Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. The stated reason: they need more time "to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." Take-Two stock drops roughly 5% in after-hours trading. Trailer 2 arrives four days later, which was very convenient timing and we all noticed.

November 6, 2025 — DELAY 2. Rockstar pushes GTA 6 from May 26, 2026 to November 19, 2026. That's a slip of 5 months and 24 days. The announcement lands minutes before Take-Two's Q2 earnings call. Shares drop roughly 7% in extended trading. The stated reason: "These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."

rockstar used almost the identical sentence both times. at some point that stops being a statement and starts being a template.

Current date: November 19, 2026. Confirmed and reconfirmed by Take-Two on its May 21, 2026 earnings call, where CEO Strauss Zelnick stated multiple times that the date is final.

Total slip from the original Fall 2025 window: roughly 12 to 14 months.

"BUT WASN'T THERE A SECRET THIRD DELAY?"

[ANALYSIS] Some outlets argue GTA 6 was actually delayed three times, because Take-Two's earnings call language suggested the game was internally targeting spring 2025 before the public "Fall 2025" window was ever announced.

That's a reasonable read of the financial disclosures. It is not an announced delay. If we count internal target shifts that were never publicly committed to, every game ever made has been delayed forty times.

Officially, publicly, on the record: two.

IS A THIRD DELAY COMING?

Here's the honest case on both sides.

Arguments that November 19 holds:

- Zelnick's language shifted. Before both previous delays, he described feeling "really good" about the date. Since November 2026 was set, he's used "confident" and "very good" — and told analysts the date is final.

- The summer marketing campaign is locked and running. Pre-orders are live. You don't open pre-orders on a game you plan to delay.

- The fiscal math. November 19, 2026 sits in Take-Two's FY2027. Slipping to fall 2027 destroys an entire fiscal year of guidance. The financial pressure to ship is enormous.

- Insider Tom Henderson — who called the first delay before it was announced — reported his sources say the content is complete.

Arguments that it might not:

- Rockstar has delayed almost every major game it has ever made. GTA V slipped. RDR2 slipped twice.

- The studio has had a genuinely turbulent year, including the firing of over 30 staff and subsequent labor disputes. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported those firings were not the cause of the November delay — but he also noted they could create long-term risk.

[ANALYSIS] OUR READ

A third delay would be a serious credibility event for a CEO who has now told Wall Street the date is final, with pre-orders taken and money collected. Zelnick has run Take-Two since 2007. He does not do that lightly.

We think November 19 holds. we also thought May 26 held. so.
