GTA 6 preloading opens on November 12 — a full week before the game's November 19 launch date — giving players enough time to have Grand Theft Auto VI ready to go the moment servers flip live. Rockstar confirmed the date specifically to "ensure they are able to play at launch," according to GameSpot.

Digital preorders on PlayStation and Xbox can begin downloading on that date. The $80 title won't be playable until November 19, but having that head start matters when you're talking about a file that could easily rival — or blow past — GTA 5's 100 GB-plus footprint. Rockstar hasn't officially disclosed GTA 6's file size yet, so expect that detail to surface closer to launch.

The physical edition situation is a little different this time around. GTA 6 will not ship on a traditional disc — instead, retail boxes will contain a download code. Those physical copies will hit store shelves on November 12 as well, letting buyers pick one up at GameStop, Walmart, or similar retailers and start preloading immediately. The game itself still unlocks on November 19 regardless of format.

With a launch this size, getting the preload window right is genuinely important. The confirmed November 12 preload date gives Rockstar — and players' internet connections — a reasonable runway before one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history goes live.
