GTA 6 Developer Rockstar Faces Crunch, Pay Gap, and Bonus Allegations

Eurogamer·July 1, 2026

Rockstar employees pursuing union recognition have made new allegations of crunch culture, gender pay inequity, and weaponised bonuses at the GTA 6 maker's UK offices.

Rockstar Games is facing serious new workplace allegations as its employees push for formal union recognition in the UK. According to a report from Game Developer, cited by Eurogamer, multiple staff members at the Grand Theft Auto VI developer have come forward with accusations spanning crunch culture, gender-based pay inequity, and the deliberate use of bonus payments as leverage against workers.

The push for unionization follows a wave of high-profile dismissals at Rockstar in 2025, which appears to have emboldened employees to speak out. The Game Developer report centers on Rockstar's UK offices specifically, where workers allege management has actively cultivated an environment of excessive overtime rather than working to eliminate it.

The bonus payment allegations are particularly pointed. Workers claim bonuses — a significant portion of total compensation in the games industry — have been used as a tool to discourage dissent or penalize those who push back against workplace conditions. On pay equity, staff say the company has failed to meaningfully close a gender pay gap that they describe as widening rather than shrinking.

Rockstar has not yet issued a public response to the allegations detailed in the Game Developer report. The company has long faced scrutiny over its working conditions, most notably ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2's launch in 2018, and these latest claims suggest those concerns haven't fully resolved in the years since.

With GTA 6 still in development and a unionization effort now formally underway, how Rockstar responds to these allegations — both publicly and internally — could shape the labor conversation across the broader games industry in the months ahead.
