GTA 6 Could Run on Steam Machines When It Hits PC

GTA 6 Could Run on Steam Machines When It Hits PC

GTA 6 isn't launching on PC at launch, but when it does, IGN says Valve's Steam Machine hardware should be able to handle it — just not at max settings.

When Grand Theft Auto VI eventually makes its way to PC, Valve's Steam Machine platform may be along for the ride — though you'd likely need to dial back the visual settings. According to IGN, GTA 6 should be capable of running on Steam Machine hardware, putting the Linux-based gaming devices back on the radar for a title that's shaping up to be one of the most technically demanding releases in years.

The caveat is an important one: IGN's assessment suggests performance would come at a cost, with players on Steam Machines needing to lower graphical settings to get the game running acceptably. That's not entirely surprising given how much Rockstar is expected to push the technical envelope with GTA VI.

Of course, none of this is officially confirmed territory. GTA 6 has only been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch, with no PC release date on the books yet. Any talk of Steam Machine compatibility is speculative by nature — based on what we currently know about the game's anticipated system requirements and Valve's hardware specs.

Still, for the Steam Machine faithful — a smaller but dedicated crowd — the news is at least encouraging. When Rockstar does eventually bring GTA 6 to PC, the door may not be completely shut on non-Windows hardware. Watch for official PC specs to tell a much clearer story once Rockstar is ready to talk about that version of the game.
