GTA 6 Banned in One Country Before It Even Launches, Deemed Too Violent

GTA 6 has been banned in at least one country ahead of its November 19 release date, with authorities citing graphic content and concerns over encouraging violence.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is still months away from hitting shelves, but the game has already run into legal trouble in at least one country, where it has been outright banned before a single copy is sold.

According to Dexerto, the upcoming Rockstar Games title has been prohibited due to its graphic content, with authorities reportedly arguing that the game encourages murder. While this kind of controversy is nothing new for the GTA franchise โ€” previous entries have faced bans and restrictions across various regions over the years โ€” it marks an early and notable hurdle for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest game launches in history.

Rockstar Games has confirmed GTA 6 is targeting a November 19 release date, with the game headed to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The title has been rated for mature audiences in regions where it has passed through classification boards, but clearly not every country's regulators have reached the same conclusion.

The GTA series has long been a lightning rod for debates around violence in video games. From congressional hearings in the United States to outright bans in countries like Australia and Thailand targeting earlier entries, Rockstar's flagship franchise has never been a stranger to controversy. GTA 6 appears to be continuing that tradition even before players get their hands on it.

For the vast majority of players worldwide, the ban is unlikely to have any impact on their ability to purchase and enjoy the game at launch. However, it does serve as a reminder that GTA 6's boundary-pushing content won't be welcomed everywhere. Rockstar has yet to issue any public statement in response to the ban.
